Planning a Wedding Checklist
Planning a wedding is easier when the tasks are broken down and tackled a little at a time. Here are a few suggestions to make the preparations faster and less stressful.
Start out by allowing yourself at least one year prior to the wedding date. You will be able to get more done without having to rush. Once you have set the date consider hiring a wedding planner.
Decide the type of wedding you want. This includes the size theme location and time.
Set a budget for all the expenses including the honeymoon and reception.
Reserve the church and reception hall.
Start looking for the wedding dress and headpiece.
Start creating the guest list and set a limit to the amount of guests
Select and reserve a photographer.
Select and reserve the florist.
Select and reserve the musicians or DJ.
Select and secure the baker for the cake.
About six to nine months before the wedding start planning the honeymoon.
Start preparations for the attendants wedding attire. Get the girls together to select the dresses and shoes.
Register for wedding gifts at several locations and tell your friends and family the locations.
Select the wedding sets and pay for them.
Get the engagement photo taken for the newspaper announcement.
Begin planning the rehearsal dinner.
Select and purchase the wedding favors.
About four to six months before the wedding book the caterer and review the menu options.
Order invitations and begin addressing them. Do not forget the postage for the invitations and the RSVP replies.
Check on the requirements for the wedding license and any tests from your area. If tests are needed schedule the tests.
Start collecting the wedding trousseau. Pack as you purchase the items.
Order the tuxedos for the males in the wedding party.
Make the reservations for the honeymoon.
About two to four months before the wedding finalize the arrangements for the reception and discuss them with the caterer.
Buy guest book pen and other essentials.
Confirm details and dates with all vendors.
Call the clergy to finalize all arrangements including the rehearsal.
About six to eight weeks before the wedding mail the invitations.
Schedule final fitting for all the girls in the wedding including the mothers.
Finalize rehearsal dinner and rehearsal details.
Finalize any transportation needs to/from the church and reception.
About four to six weeks before the wedding confirm the number of guests for the reception; notify the caterer of the number. Finalize the menu selection.
Put engagement announcement in newspaper.
Apply for marriage license.
Finalize all arrangements with vendors including location details and time.
About two weeks before the wedding submit change of address for the person that is going to be moving.
Finalize the seating arrangements of the guests. Contact any guests that have not responded.
Set hair and nail appointments.
Deliver song list to DJ.
Confirm arrangements with parents and bridal party.
Confirm honeymoon details and reservations.
One week before wedding check all the clothing for honeymoon.
Finalize the number of guests to caterer.
Confirm all delivers of flowers cake and caterer.
Give bridal gifts to attendants.
